UN Jeep photo shoot008.JPG (104769 bytes)

Canadian Army Registration (CAR) Number (later called CFR - Canadian Forces Registration number)

67-08254

The military licence plate would have been 08254.

Serial number 7105-97521

Mfg. FEBRUARY 1968

Restored.

In the late 1960's The Department of National Defence ordered 800 M38A1 CDN2's from the Kaiser Jeep Company, Windsor Ontario. These were in addition to or replacements for the original M38A1 CDN built in the early 1950's

Jeep 67-08254 was sent with Canadian UN Peace Keeping Forces to serve in the Cypress peacekeeping. This vehicle served throughout the late 1960s and 1970s. At some point it was returned to Canada to serve with B.C's own 12th Service Battalion. It was used here in various exercises and training as well as a stint with the Military Police section of this unit.

On April 28th 1988, this jeep was released from service and sold by Crown Assets for $1351.00. It passed through the hands of four owners before being acquired by the Canadian Military Remembrance Society. CMRS took it upon ourselves to restore this vehicle to its original United Nations service and has proudly displayed it with the former "Peacekeepers" at various parades and events throughout British Columbia.

It is interesting to note, that over the years of restoration, a number of "trinkets", were found inside the body of the jeep. They include 3 Cypriot coins, dated 1963, a 1964 British six pence coin and 3 blank shell casings dated 1972 and 1974.

Although 99% restored, The Canadian Military Remembrance Society is in a continued state of research on this vehicle.

M38A1CDN 106mmRR jeeps in Cyprus 1974 jpg.jpg (542946 bytes) UNFICYP jeep, 106mm Recoilless Rifle conversion (note split windshield) . Photo taken in 1974, the year the Turks invaded Cyprus, catching UNFICYP in the middle of a shooting war. This jeep has "UN" in large white letters on the hood. Was this done during or right after the Turkish invasion? Ours was not a 106mm conversion.
